F.A.Q. about Sunday

“I haven’t attended church in a long time…am I welcome?”

Yes! Our hope is that you’ll feel the welcome of Jesus in the warmth of our community, but also that you would find the freedom to talk honestly about any questions and doubts you might have about faith, meaning in life and about Christianity.  Talk to anyone in our church that’s been here a while and you’ll learn that each has their own questions and doubts! Our desire is that we can all learn about what it means to follow Jesus together in community.

“What is liturgy and why is your church so…liturgical?”

All that we are referring to when we use the word ‘liturgy’ is the order or structure of our worship service. Liturgy is instructive and formative - it helps us to understand the heart of God and how to follow Jesus in our Monday-Saturday. For instance on a Sunday, we learn about the welcome of God, how to confess our sins and receive the forgiveness of the gospel. We learn about forgiving others. We receive instruction from God’s Word and partake of Communion together. We learn about generosity through giving financially and lastly, Jesus sends us out to be salt and light in our community.

“Do you take communion every week?”

Yes! Communion is a sacrament of the church (along with baptism). The word sacrament is a translation of a Greek word which means “mystery.” Both Baptism and Communion are mysteries of the church because through them God works powerfully to nourish our faith. We believe that Communion isn’t a mere “remembrance” of Jesus’ death but rather fellowship with the Risen Christ who is present in the meal truly and spiritually.

“What will my child do at church?”

Jesus welcomed the little children and so do we. We believe that children aren’t simply the next generation of the church, they are part of the church today! Each Sunday your child will hear the good news of Jesus from the Scriptures and through song. Read more about our Gospel-centered curriculum and child safety on our Los Niños page.

“What if i don’t know Spanish?”

You’ll notice that we use both English and Spanish. This is a big value for us because our desire is for Kissimmee Fellowship to celebrate the Hispanic culture of our community! We promise that it’s okay if you do not know Spanish, but we hope that your time with us will be a small glimpse into the beautiful diversity of the global Church that gathers weekly to worship the Triune God of the Scriptures in numerous languages and dialects.

“Why do you baptize infants?”

We baptize infants not because we think it’s a sentimental tradition but because we believe it is in line with the Scriptures. Through the sacrament of Baptism, God is establishing his promises with his people. In the Old Testament, God commanded that infants (who could not yet make a profession of faith) were to receive the visible sign of membership (Gen. 17). In the New Testament, we believe that this precedent still stands with Baptism (Acts 2; Col. 2).
